It’s That Time of the Year Again: Co-Op Cheques

Co-op Equity and Cash Back Cheques are rolling in again… My cheques seem to be getting lower and lower every year. I racked in $35 this year since I’ve been doing most my fills at Superstore. 11 cents back per litre towards groceries have been a great deal for me and I’ve only been going to co-op when a superstore isn’t in sight.

My vote for best 2010 Super Bowl commercial goes to the Doritos commercial above. Pure genius!

If you went on a beer run and missed some of the commercials… you can view them all at 2010superbowlcommercials.com.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday and for those who aren’t football fans, two opposing football teams play during some wicked commercials and before/after a great concert.

For those who are, there’s no need to remind you that today is possibly the largest day in sports each year. Super Bowl XLIV is today pitting the Indianapolis Colts against the New Orleans Saints. Kickoff is at 5:30 Central but be sure to tune in early to catch Carrie Underwood (*drool*) sing the National Anthem.

OK, so there’s a big game … WHERE CAN I WATCH IT???

Well, that depends. If you want to catch all of the American commercials that cost far too much to broadcast during the game, you’re going to want to get somewhere like the Joey lounge, Boston Pizza (if you buy a large pizza you get an order of Cactus Skins free!), Smitty’s, Silver Heights, etc.

If you want to catch the local commercials (which are most likely the same commercials you’d see during the Grey Cup) then you can just watch the game at home or a friend’s house. However, the plus side to this is you get to check out the Bud Light commercial starring Winnipeg’s own “The Afterbeat”.

So, who will it be? I’m betting on the Saints, 37-27.

Paul LaPolice to Coach the Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers just announced that Paul LaPolice has been hired as the 28th head coach in franchise history.

LaPolice comes from the Saskatchewan Riders and was their offensive coordinator from 2008-2009. His offence ranked 2nd in scoring, and 2nd in touchdowns scored in 2009.

Winnipeg won’t be unfamiliar territory for LaPolice as he was the offensive coordinator for the Bombers from 2002-2003.

All other clubs should be very afraid. If theres one thing I know – its not to mess with the Police.

This weeks Friday Eats will be a bit different. Instead of featuring a Winnipeg restaurant we are featuring a food item that is taking Winnipeg and the world by storm. It is called the Shirataki Noodle or The Miracle Noodle.

Our friends at Young’s Market gave us a rundown of this very popular dietary food item:

This amazing high fibre weight-loss product originated in japan. Its made from soluble plant fibre, which gives dieters 3 advantages.

1) once digested, it expands slightly and gives you a sense of fullness;
2) it has no calories;
3) you don’t need to cook it;

Cooking Suggestions:
All you have to do is drain away the water content and pour your favourite sauce over it and serve. Or consume it like many Asians do, in hot-pot!

This product is great to use as a substitute meal since it gives you a sensation that you ate something hearty. This is why it is known as the “miracle noodles.”

Shirataki Noodles aka The Miracle Noodle is available now at both Young’s Trading (397 William Ave.) and Young’s Market (1000 McPhillips St.)

Make sure to check out their website at youngsmarket.ca for more great recipes and food tips.

Just after everyone stop complaining about Facebook’s new design, the biggest social networking site in the world has decided to shake things up again.

As usual, everyone will complain about the new design. Remember back in 2008 when everyone cried and whined about the initial Facebook redesign? I can’t even count the amount of group invites I got for “People against the new Facebook”.

The people at Facebook aren’t millionaires for no reason. They know what they’re doing, and though change and new technology is scary, eventually you’ll learn and love it like you loved the last design. Change is good. Without change we’d still be on Friendster/MySpace/GeoCities/AsianAvenue.

Learn more about the new design by logging into your Facebook Account or reading http://www.facebook.com/sitetour/homepage.php.

While you’re there, make sure to add us as friend.
