Piper Navajo Originally uploaded by handresalvarado

The pilot, Mark Tayfel, of the plane crash that happened in 2002 is expected to receive his sentencing this Thursday. The crash landing took place at the McPhillips and Logan intersection eight years ago.

Tayfel’s Piper Navajo aircraft ran out of fuel during a flight where he picked up six American fishermen from a Manitoba fishing lodge. He missed a first attempt at landing at our Winnipeg airport and was forced to land in the busy intersection.

While I certainly feel for the families and the people involved, I don’t think this guy deserves jail time. He’s had six years to reflect and it sounds like he’s not going to just live it down or forget about it. His defense brought up the fact that Tayfel should get house arrest and maybe share his experience with student pilots.
