There will be a new option for drivers who do not own a passport. Starting in the fall of 2009 for Manitoba residents who own a drivers license can have thier license enhanced, to meet the U.S. Homeland Security Department requirements, will be available and will cost an extra $30 for this.

This is great news as it will allow people who do not have or plan to leave the country but want to travel down to the U.S. on a whim. It was also noted there will be a good for a quick turn around time, it is reported that you would schedule a date to come in and out in 15 minutes.

This is also a cheaper alternative to the fees charged when renewing or obtaining a passport ($92) + waiting time (days, weeks, months)

Cheaper, quicker, compact… what else can ask for when travelling to the States.
