A “B-boy” is a male, regardless of age (you don’t say “B-man”), who break dances. A “B-girl” is the same thing except you’d be referring to a female.

Now that we’ve got that cleared up, this is your reminder that Double Impact will be storming up the UofM this Sunday, June 22nd.

DOUBLE IMPACT

- The University of Manitoba, Room 210/2nd floor in University Centre
- Doors open @ 7:00pm

Before the Jabbawockeez Dance into Winnipeg on July 21st, they performed at the MMVA’s this past weekend.

Just a small tease of whats to come next month!

Much Music obviously did not do any camera tests before the show. They need to realize that they are filming a ‘dance’ performance and not a ‘musical’ performance. There are various times where Much Music cameras would pan the Jabbawockeez off the screen. This is ok when you are performing a ‘musical’ artist where you ‘listen’ to the music, but for ‘dance’ performances, they should have never panned off the artists.

Japanese Game show Originally uploaded by HamOnRye

ABC has a couple new game shows coming this Tuesday (June 24)

And they are about to change the way North America does it. Japan is the source of almost all Western pop culture and trends today, which is why ABC has decided to bring us:

Wipeout (Tuesdays 7:00 PM)
Human cannonballs! Human pinballs! Crashes, smashes and mud splashes! Twenty-four thrill-seekers will compete in the world’s largest extreme obstacle course designed to provide the most spills, face plants and wipeouts ever seen on television.

Each week 24 daring new contestants of all ages, shapes and sizes will go head to head through four rounds of grueling and physically demanding but wildly hilarious obstacle courses to win the title of Wipeout Champion and the grand prize of $50,000. The contestants and the courses change every week, with over-the-top obstacles including “Dizzy Dummy” the “Dirty Balls” and “The Dreadmill” - which will have contestants jumping hurdles on a 40-foot long treadmill at warp speed. In the end, only one contestant will win, while everyone else will Wipeout!

I Survived a Japanese Game Show (Tuesdays 8:00 PM)
The show features 10 Americans - many of whom have never traveled outside the United States — who are whisked away to Japan and compete in the ultimate Japanese game show…with hilarious results. The final winner will take home $250,000.

Both shows seem to come with the same premises. ‘Wipeout’ takes place in North America and is more of a ‘classic’ game show where there are new contestants every week. ‘I Survived A Japanese Game Show’ is take the ‘reality’ series approach and feature 10 contestants for the whole series in what I supposed will be elimination contests every episode till only 1 remains. The series is actually filmed in Japan. Though very different, both shows are set to give us a GREAT laugh!!

Be sure to catch these new shows Tuesdays on ABC (Channel 13 on MTS, Channel 7 for Shaw)

hand off Originally uploaded by two stout monks

It’s been months since we last got to see our team in action and the wait is finally over! The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have their first home game tonight.

The Blue and Gold will be matched up against the Montreal Alouettes. The Alouettes have always been a rival to the Bombers but, most critics are writing them off after bad season last year.

Kick-off is at 7:00 and I believe that there are many seats still available (since this is a pre-season game).

MW Lacrosse Fight Originally uploaded by andrew.deci

After only 1 day, the Manitoba Lacrosse Association have lifted the spectator ban on all Lacrosse games. The league believes that their message has been heard and hope for the best in future games

From http://www.manitobalacrosse.mb.ca:

Over the last 24 hours we have received numerous e-mails and phone calls from our membership expressing their strong feedback regarding the decision that was made to have spectators removed or not allowed in the arenas to watch scheduled RRLA box lacrosse play-off games.

The consensus from our membership is that they recognize their is a problem with the abuse of officials and many have offered suggestions to address the issue.

After a considerable amount of discussion with members of the MLA Board of Directors and with Fred Haight, President of the RRLA, we have collectively agreed to lift the spectator ban effective immediately.

To address the issue of spectator behaviour we are asking for your support to help us create a positive environment for players, coaches, officials, administrators and spectators.

Thank you.

Glen Henkewich, President MLA

Bike to work @ SFU Originally uploaded by Graham Ballantyne

This Friday is Winnipeg’s first ever Bike to Work Day. The goal of the day is to “promote a healthy commuting alternative that benefits the rider and the community by reducing pollution and traffic congestion”.

Register now and you could receive a free t-shirt. All registrants will be entered to win prizes, such as a Batavus Old Dutch, an electric bike, carbon pumps, bike computers, bike locks, helmets, tune ups, memberships to GoodLife Fitness and other goodies.

Another great perk is a free pancake breakfast at the Forks, sponsored by Manitoba Lottery Corporation. There will even be bike valet!! I would LOVE bike valet at work. Especially if there would be guarantee that the bikes wouldn’t get stolen!

For more information check out the Bike to Work Day Winnipeg website.
