Manitoba Model, Hayley Kohle (photoed on the left) died at the age of 26 after mysteriously falling off a balcony in Milan, Italy last Saturday. Hayley had been modeling in Italy for a year after signing a deal through Winnipeg’s Panache agency.
The agency Hayley worked for in Italy, Future Models of Milan, has a small tribute to her on the homepage of their website..
There is currently no signs of foul play. Hayley had sent an e-mail to a friend about an hour before she died and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary, a friend said.

Why is it always a bigger tragedy when an attractive young girl dies VS. a man or an older woman or someone unattractive?
Pay attention to the news and newspapers; you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.
If it was an overweight, unattractive 26 year old *man* who died tragically in Italy, would it have made the cover of the Winnipeg SUN and accesswinnipeg.com?
Of course not. It probably wouldn’t even have made the newspapers.
The prettier the girl = the worse the tragedy. That’s today’s society for you.

It’s sad whenever someone dies, but you can’t compare society to the media. The whole point of the Winnipeg Sun, is you guessed it to sell newspapers!!!!

In response to Hot_Rod’s post: I bet if this unattractive, overweight 26 year old man had been from Winnipeg we would have seen it in the Winnipeg Sun. I have known Hayley and her family since she was a little girl and to try to downplay the tragedy just because she happened to be a model is inexcusable!

I agree with applepie (that sounds weird).
I don’t believe that it’s because she was “attractive” that this is news. It’s news because it was a tragic way of going and she was from Winnipeg.

I would have to agree with applepie, news does not just focus on the beautiful and glamorous all the times. The time I’m thinking of is the time when Josh Iwasiuks fell 10 floors to his death and only had brunt force trauma to the back to his head in Mexico and it was not the only case. It’s Winnipeg news about Winnipeg people.
