Does anyone still believe in Groundhog Day?

Groundhog Day is an annual holiday celebrated on February 2 on which if a groundhog emerges from its burrow and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If on the other hand, it is sunny and the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.

Chances are, with the weather we’re having, the groundhog would have got blown away from all the wind.

Famed puppet Manitoba Merv stuck his head out this morning at Oak Hammock Marsh and saw his shadow which means 6 more weeks of winter for Manitoba — sorry, no early spring this year.

Results seem to be the same around Canada. Ontario’s Wiarton Willie and Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam both saw their shadow.
