New MTS TV HD Channels

Written By Ken

Don’t get too excited… they’re not available in Winnipeg yet – but we can give you a sneak peak of what’s to come.

MTS has launched its new HD and PVR service in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. If you head to MTS’s website and enter Portal La Prairie as your location, you can get a nice preview of whats to come.

The new service has 30 HD Channels compared to the current 8 we have now. My favorite addition? Raptors NBA TV HD! Some other notables are HBO HD and Movie Central HD. It’s also about time MTS got Canadian HD channels like CityTV HD and Global HD.

The MTS PVR service allows you to record up to 3 programs at once. The 160 GB hard drive allows you to record up to 120 hours of Digital TV or 25 hours of High-Definition programming.

There are also changes on the software that MTS TV is running. MTS has partnered with Microsoft Mediaroom to provide a whole new look to MTS TV. I am pretty excited for this and can’t wait for it to come to Winnipeg!

There is still no news from MTS as to when the new service will be in Winnipeg.

UPDATE: All channel packages and services in this post is only speculation based on the packages and services offered in Portage La Prairie. There has been no official announcement as to what channels and services MTS will be bringing to Winnipeg in the future.

3 tuners? Wow! Still, I have a Shaw HD PVR so I’m stuck with them right now.

I’ve got 2 regular, digital tuners from MTS right now. I pay $24.99 for one and $21.99 for the other (with 11 packages each). I wouldn’t mind upgrading to one of these but I’d need to get a pretty good deal to switch.
