Early Morning Traffic Returns

Written By Ken | 1 Comment

If you’re on the road between 7am and 9am then you’ve probably noticed that traffic has increased this week and getting to where you need to be is taking a lot longer.

This is becuase school is back in session at Red River College and University campuses in Winnipeg. Though the traffic seems bad already, this week is probably just a taste of whats to come. The first few days of school usually sees a small attendance, so expect traffic to be even worse as the school season picks up.

Make sure to adjust your alarms to avoid any delays. Most importantly, drive safe! I know that traffic jams can be frustrating times… but if you give yourself enough time in the morning, all frustrations can be avoided.

U of W Offers Text Books for Rent

Written By Ken | No Comments

Students heading to the University of Winnipeg this year now have another option to obtain required text books.

Some of the most expensive parts of an education are text books. Unfortunately, we have not reached the era yet where text books are digital (costs less, saves trees, easier to carry, etc etc)

The University of Winnipeg Bookstore has started a rental program for text books. Renting text books can save a student up to 50% on their text book costs, but selection is very limited and you must be at least 18 years old to rent.

The University of Winnipeg is the first post secondary school in Western Canada to offer text book rentals.

However, the program won’t be for everyone. Some students will require their text books long after they graduate, in which case the books should be purchased.

As for me, I haven’t opened my text books for years, and probably never will again. This program would have been a HUGE cost saver for me… and it would have also made the Student Loans that I’m still paying off a bit lower :)

Tim Hortons Camp Day

Written By Ken | Comments Off

Today (June 2, 2010) is Tim Horton’s Camp Day. Tim’s will donate every penny from coffee sales to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.

What One Cup of Coffee Can Do
Every time a customer buys a coffee at Tim Hortons on Camp Day they will help send more than 14,000 kids – who could otherwise not afford it – on the camping adventure of a lifetime. All children who attend one of the Foundation’s six camps are selected from within the communities where Tim Hortons stores are located. Tim Hortons Store Owners work closely with local youth organizations and schools to select children, between the ages of nine and 12, to attend a 10-day summer camp session or seven day winter camp session.

So when you pick up your daily Timmy’s today… smile! You just sent a Manitoba kid to camp!
