FRIDAY EATS: Aloe Vera Juice

Written By Ken | No Comments

This weeks Friday Eats is a feature on another dietary product that is taking Winnipeg by storm.

Aloe Vera, also known as the medicinal aloe, is a species of succulent plant that originated in Northern Africa, the Canary islands and Cape Verde. Aloe Vera grows in arid climates and is widely distributed in Africa and other arid areas. The species is frequently cited as being used in herbal medicine. Many scientific studies of the use of Aloe Vera have been undertaken, some of them conflicting. Despite these limitations, there is some preliminary evidence that Aloe Vera extracts may be useful in the treatment of wound and burn healing, diabetes and elevated blood lipids in humans. These positive effects are thought to be due to the presence of compounds such as polysaccharides, mannans, anthraquinones and lectins.

Aloe Vera juice is a drink that’s made from crushed Aloe Vera. It has natural detoxifying benefits and natural support for the immune system.

It soothes and cleanse your digestive tract and improves circulation. Everyone knows how healthy Aloe Vera is when it is applied externally on your skin, just imagine how healthy it can be for your body internally when it is consumed.

The drink comes in a variety of different tasty & healthy flavours: natural, sugar-free, pomegranate, mango, lychee, keewee, pineapple, peach, guava & grape.

To try out various different brands and flavours of Aloe Vera Juice head to your local Young’s Market.

Manitoba Pilots New Ambulance

Written By Lyndon | 2 Comments

If you’re an avid of European automotive programs such as Top Gear or Fifth Gear, you’ve probably seen similar styled ambulances parked or moving along the side lines. Meet the Dodge Sp… I mean, the Mercedes Sprinter!

Four of these Mercedes Sprinters are being launched for testing in Manitoba. Aside from being a smoother ride than our standard ambulances, CBCnews reports these beasts run 30% more efficiently. By looking at the Sprinter’s pictures you can see the size is the most noticeable change between the vehicles. Not without it’s problems, the real issue the WFPS have had is deciding on what to pack and how to pack it in the thing.

There seems to be another reason too. GM and Ford seem to be having a supply shortage of parts for the current vehicles. Can we blame the American economy for that? Does this mean Chrysler has a giant stockpile of Dodge Sprinter parts to use?

H1N1 Clinics Now Open to Everyone

Written By Ken | Comments Off

Manitoba H1N1 Clinics are now open to everyone. For the past month, clinics have only been open to persons on a high priority list. Just recently, eligibility was also opened to children under the age of 18.

But Winnipeg clinics opened this morning with little to no line-ups which pushed the WRHA to open availability for all Manitobans. Clinics will remain open to all Manitobans based on supply and demand.

H1N1 Clinics in Winnipeg reopened today at 9:30am are now accepting patients that are 18 years old and under.

The province has experience and increase in school-aged children at emergency rooms with flu-like symptoms. Opening the clinics to these children should decrease the chance of the virus spreading.
