Manitoba Public Insurance has made significant progress to correct the problems it has been experiencing with its computer system, due to an issue with one of its data banks.
You can check on MPI’s website for an update on their progress. Customers will not be charged late fees or overdue interest, nor will policies be suspended, and no non-policy financing agreements will be cancelled due to the processing delay.

Manitoba Minister of Justice and Attorney General Andrew Swan and Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz announced today that Eurocopter Canada Limited has been awarded the contract to provide the Winnipeg Police Service helicopter.
“This is an exciting day for the Service. The helicopter is going to be a vital part of our operations, and will help us respond more quickly and safely to crime in our city,” said Winnipeg Police Chief Keith McCaskill. “I am grateful to the Province of Manitoba and City of Winnipeg for their investments in public safety.”
An EC-120B Colibri (“Hummingbird”) has been selected. It has fast become to Canadian law enforcement air support what the Crown Victoria cruiser car is to general patrol operations.

I hope to see you all out at the legislative building this Saturday May 8th from 11am-1pm to rally in support Fluffy’s Law. Even if this may not affect you directly, there are many people in your life that are affected by no pet policies that are prevalent in Winnipeg apartments.

Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, the Forks North Portage Development Corporation and Portage Place bring us a new Downtown entertainment initiative specifically for those of us who work in Downtown Winnipeg. Bringing the action and life of the Forks over to Portage Place, it certainly sounds like lunches for us down here will be a little more lively. You can read up after that jump!
A couple of weeks ago I posted about Fluffy’s Law which is fighting to allow pets in apartment buildings. Next weekend there will be a rally at the Legislative Building for this cause.
Date: Saturday, May 8, 2010
Time: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

By now you must have heard about ‘BOOBQUAKE’ however, for those living under a rock, I will fill you in.
Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying “Many women who do not dress modestly … lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes”.
Jen McCreight, who is a liberal, geeky, nerdy, scientific, perverted atheist feminist trapped in Indiana (according to her blog, blaghag.com) wanted to put this theory to test and so, using the power of the internet (and other media) had invited all women to wear their most ‘cleavage revealing top’ on Monday, April 26th.
I’m a bit upset about this. The only reason being that my birthday isn’t until next month. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to suffice. Ladies … let’s see what you’ve got in the name of science! (feel free to send pics to ‘trevor (at) accesswinnipeg (dot) com). Especially if you want to show your support for this wonderful cause! Haha!
Hit ‘jump’ to see AW’s own BOOBquake gallery (possibly NSFW). These are my beautiful lady friends I’ve asked to contribute to our gallery in hopes of motivating more ladies to support this amazing experiment!
Once you’re done enjoying them, check out the Facebook page and Jen’s blog. Heck, you should even buy a shirt that will support a charity.
Manitoba’s new Driver Safety Rating System will become effective March 1st with all driver’s being under the system by March of next year.
The new system will have 32 active levels and if you get the highest (25%) discount on your insurance now, you will keep that discount when you move to level 10 on the new system. However, in the next few years you will have the opportunity to earn an extra 5% (to the maximum 30%).
