This Thursday (April 1, 2010) is Winnipeg’s busiest bar night of the year. Good Friday is the only holiday that lands on a Friday every year, so it creates a lot of long lines and 20 minute drink waits at almost every club in Winnipeg.

A few tips for the party animals tonight:

Pre-game
A packed club is a packed bar – don’t expect to get a drink at anything quicker than 10 minutes. Pre-gaming (Verb. To casually drink before an event) is a good idea to avoid having to line up at the busy bars all night. Less time lining up for a drink means more time dancing and scouting the club.

Double-fist
If you are one of the lucky ones who make it to the front of the bar for a limited chance at a drink purchase, grab 2 (if you can – new laws force clubs to sell 1 drink per customer)

Show up Early!
Obvious, i know. On a normal bar night the line will form around 9:30 – 10pm, your best bet to guarantee entrance to the club is to arrive from 8pm-9pm.

Leave Your Coat in Your Car
The weather should be nice and warm this weekend. Warm enough for you to run from the parking lot to the club and tough it out while you wait in line. If your showing up late, don’t expect to get coat check, this is usually the first thing to sell out. If your leaving late, don’t expect to get your coat without a 15 minute lineup. Bottom line, leave your coat in your car if you can.

Do Your Research
Almost every club in Winnipeg is doing something spectacular tonight. Be sure to research your options to find the best night for you. Things such as Facebook and Twitter are great tools to discover what each club is offering.

Don’t Drink and Drive

Drinking and driving is a criminal offence. Lets all have fun but keep it safe Winnipeg!

So the talk of Winnipeg night life is that the Whiskey Dix owners have officially announced that their patio (biggest club patio in Winnipeg) is being closed down to make way for a parking lot.

Anyone else call BS? The story attached was that staff had no where to park and downtown needs more parking. BUT WAIT… isn’t there a huge 50 bay parking lot just to the other side of Whiskey Dix? If your staff is coming to the club later than the customer than maybe its the staff that needs to be fixed. I’ve never had a problem finding parking at Whiskey Dix if I’m there before 10.

This is either a really bad April Fools joke, or a really bad marketing scheme. Some people believe that the best way to promote something is to tell them its closing down… but it is NOT worth the price if you have to lie to your customers.

With patio season just around the corner, congratulations Whiskey Dix, you’ve just left a sour taste in everyones mouths. This summer, Whiskey Dix will either have a parking lot or a patio… either way… it will probably be empty.
