Gold Medal Game Most Watch Broadcast in Canadian History

Written By Ken | No Comments

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Gold Medal Hockey game between Canada and the U.S. was the most watched broadcast in Canadian history.

16.6 million Canadian viewers tuned into CTV/TSN/SportsNet to watch Canada win Gold over the U.S. in overtime. Canada’s population is approximately 30 million which means almost half of Canada watched the entire game… GO CANADA!!!

Compare that to the Superbowl which averages 106.5 million U.S. viewers with a population of 300 million – half of Canada vs 1/3 of the USA is VERY impressive!

Roll Up the Rim to Win

Written By Ken | No Comments

Everyone’s favourite game is back. Tim Horton’s Rrroll Up the Rim to Lose Win promotion starts today (March 1, 2010).

This years grand prizes are 40 Toyota Rav4’s (Recall free I hope), 100 $10,000 cash prizes, and 1,000 Toshiba Netbooks (A grand prize is a Netbook?!? Really?!? Aren’t those things like $300?)

They also have the regular food and gift card prizes. As you can tell, I’m a bit disappointed with this years prizes, a more reason to get FREE coffee at McDonalds instead!

Good luck!

Playstation 3 Network Down – Unplug Your PS3!

Written By Ken | 2 Comments

So you want to get back on the PS3 now that the Olympics are done? Well hold that thought, for over 24-hours the Playstation 3 network has been experiencing a global outage and users haven’t been able to connect online.

The worst part? It is also affecting a few offline games rendering the Playstation 3 temporarily useless (for gaming at least)

PS3 Slim consoles are not affected. It is rumoured that this is more than an online network problem and it could be an issue with the PS3’s calendar system. PS3 recently fixed their calendaring system and the rumour is that the leap year is messing it up. Stay tuned for more information before you go out and buy a 360.

UPDATE: It looks like it is an issue with the clock! Y2K FTW!! I am very curious to see how Sony fixes this one without the ability to connect online. If it was something as simple as changing your clock back I’m pretty sure it would have been fixed by now. This could get messy!!

UPDATE 2: As expected this looks like it is becoming a DISASTER! Sony is telling everyone not to use their PS3 (Unplug it from power) until this issue has been resolved! The clock-related bug can cause data loss. They expect to have a fix within 24-hours.

UPDATE 3: The PS3 issue is now back up. The problem was the handling of the leap year. Now that it is March 2, 2010 GMT time, the issue fixed it self. Expect an update soon that will do a more permanent fix.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
* Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
